‘adventure around Arun and Barun valley to world’s 5th highest Makalu base camp’

Makalu base camp trekking, an adventure that leads you in the heart of beautiful Barun valley where Makalu base camp located at valley western end, considered as most beautiful where rare species of plants-herbs and wild-life are found which is almost vanished in this planet earth.

Makalu and Barun area where 47 varieties of orchids, 67 species economically valuable medicinal and aromatic plants are found with 25 of Nepal’s 30 varieties of rhododendron, 19 species of bamboo, 15 oaks, 48 species of primrose.

An amazing country where more than 400 species of exotic birds life exists in this magnificent areas of Barun valley on walk towards Makalu base camp trekking, facing fabulous views of towering Mt. Makalu listed as world’s fifth highest peak at above 6,463 m and 27,766 ft which was fist conquered by French Expeditions in May 15th 1955 led by J.Couzy, L. Terray and team of professional mountaineers.

Beside Mt. Makalu includes views of Baruntse, Chamlang Himal with rare eastern face of Mt. Everest known as Khansung Face, only seen from Makalu base camp and around its scenic high view point hills.

Starting our marvelous adventure to Makalu Base Camp trekking taking a super scenic flight to land at Tumlingtar air-field, situated on the shelf of Arun River, a warmer farm areas and interesting town of Tumlingtar, where our actual walks begins taking a short drive to hills villages and then on the road to Makalu base camp through Arun and Barun valleys.

As our journey progress with downs and ups hill walks heading towards rural farm villages of Sherpa native of Makalu at Tashi-Gaon, the last village for some days, where walk leads into complete wilderness of mountains and green hills, covered within lovely rhododendron, pines and fir forest.

The green vegetation slowly fades as walk leads over smaller passes of Kongma-la Shipton-la and Keke-la to reach at scenic Barun valley and towards Makalu base camp enclosed by high peaks and glaciers.

Enjoying time at Makalu base camp and the highest point of the adventure return route on the same trail allowing you to marvel more of the beautiful country before flying back to Kathmandu from Tumlingtar, after a most remarkable and adventurous time on Makalu Base Camp Trekking.

Day 01: Reach Kathmandu 1,345 m and then transfer to respective Hotels

Day 02: In Kathmandu sightseeing tour and preparations for Everest Panorama trek.

Day 03: Fly to Tumlingtar 476 m, drive to Num 1,490 m - 04 hrs with 45 mins on air.

Day 04: Trek to Seduwa 1,540 m - 05 hrs.

Day 05: Trek to Tashi Gaon 2,135m - 04 hrs.

Day 06: Trek to Kongma Danda (Ridge) 3,556 m - 05 hrs

Day 07: Trek to Mumbuk 3,553 m - 06 hrs.

Day 08: Trek to Nghe (Nehe) Kharka 3,760 m - 05 hrs.

Day 09: Trek to Shersong 4, 572 m - 05 hrs.

Day 10: Trek to Makalu Base Camp 4,812 m - 04 hrs.

Day 11: Rest day at base camp for local exploration and hike.

Day 12: Trek to Yangle Kharka 3, 598 m - 07 hours.

Day 13: Trek to Mumbuk - 05 hours.

Day 14: Trek to Kongma Ridge - 05 hours.

Day 15: Trek to Narbu Gaon 1,310 m via Tashi Gaon - 05 hours.

Day 16: Trek to Num via Seduwa - 05 hours.

Day 17: Drive back to Tumlingtar and transfer to local lodge.

Day 18: From Tumlingtar fly back to Kathmandu 40 minutes on air and transfer to hotel.

Day 19: Reserve and spare day with optional sightseeing tour.        

Day 20: Depart for International flights homeward bound.

Day 01: Reach Kathmandu 1,345 m and then transfer to respective Hotels

On reaching at Kathmandu international airport received by our representative and guide, then transfer for short drive in the heart of Kathmandu city and to your hotels.

After checking into your pleasant rooms then join in for group briefing regarding Makalu Base Camp treks includes useful information to make your stay in Nepal more enjoyable and worth-while with us.

Evening includes group dinner in a nice Nepalese restaurant with cultural programs as entertainment.

Day 02: In Kathmandu sightseeing tour and preparations for Makalu trek.

Morning after breakfast in the hotel, our tour guide will take you in the heart of Kathmandu city, for exciting historical and heritage tour of old Durbar (royal palace and courtyard) square of great importance.

Tour includes Temple of Kumari (Living young virgin Goddess) Kastamandap Temple where Kathmandu name derived from, a temple built with the wood of a single tree, tour of old palace during the reign of Malla and late Shah kings.

Afternoon tour of famous Hindu Temple of Pashupatinath and visit Bouddhanath Stupa, one of the largest dome shaped monument in Asia of Buddhist religion and culture.

After an exciting and interesting tour head back to hotel preparation for Makalu Base Camp trek next early morning with exciting flight to Tumlingtar around Makalu region of Eastern Nepal.

Day 03: Fly to Tumlingtar 476 m, drive to Num 1,490 m - 04 hrs with 45 mins on air.

Morning transfer to Kathmandu domestic air-terminal for exciting scenic flight to land at Tumlingtar grassy air-field, on a small aircrafts either Dornier, Twin-Otter or similar types where you can witness amazing panorama of snowcapped Himalayan range of peaks with close views of Mt. Everest and Mt. Makalu as flight lands at Tumlingtar.

A busy farm town on route Makalu as well to Kanchenjunga and Everest areas, where very few use this trails and region of Far East Nepal, at Tumlingtar with time for refreshing stops and then drive on rough dirt road to reach higher hills past many farm villages and Khandbari (a major and headquarter town of Sanka-Sava district within Makalu area).

As drive continues facing excellent views of snow capped peaks with ups to green forest area and then downhill to reach our first overnight stop around Makalu area at Num, a moderate size farm village.

Day 04: Trek to Seduwa 1,540 m- 05 hrs.

First day walk starts with steep descend for an hour to cross over a bridge above Arun River, and then uphill to Seduwa village, walking past Runmura a small farm village with gradual climb to Seduwa village for overnight camp.

Day 05: Trek to Tashi Gaon 2,135m - 04 hours.

From Seduwa village short day walk today morning walk follows a winding path to Tashigaon a moderate size farm village of Sherpa community, which is the last village on route to Makalu base camp, walking into farm area and then reaching at Tashigaon for lunch and overnight camp.

Here with ample time to explore the village of great interest around to witness Sherpa Buddhist culture and age-old traditional life.

Day 06: Trek to Kongma Danda 3,556 m - 05 hours

After Tashi Gaon which be last human settlement for a week, as morning leads to gradual walk within dense forest of rhododendron, oaks and pines trees past several cattle herder’s shelters and shades.

Walking for few hours on good moderate trail where afternoon walk leads to a climb for few hours to reach on top Kongma ridge, where tall trees fades to small rhododendron and juniper bushes.

Overnight camp is set overlooking views of world third high Mt. Kanchenjunga with Mt. Makalu and adjoining peaks.

Day 07: Trek to Mumbuk 3,553 m - 06 hours

From Kongma walk leads to complete wilderness following a ridge with few ups and down to reach at glacial ponds of Thulo Pokhari (large) with Sano Pokhari(small), and then cross over Tutu-la and Shipton la above 4, 453 m high passes, with downhill heading back into dense forest to our overnight camp in the midst of tree lines at place called Mumbuk.

Day 08: Trek to Nehe Kharka 3,760 m - 05 hours.

Morning walks heading down towards scenic Barun valley, a place famous for unique rare species of vegetation- plants that’s almost extinct on this world, where medicinal herbs and mountain animals are found around.

On reaching Barun valley, walk leads to gradual up with views of peaks on both sides of the valley and then encountering several Yak herder shelters and a small Buddhist Gompa (monastery), after a nice good walk reaching to our overnight camp at Nehe Kharka with scenic Barun valley.

Day 09: Trek to Shersong 4, 572 m - 05 hours.

From Barun valley trek to Shersong which is at end of Barun valley towards Makalu base camp as walk lead to slow uphill then crossing streams with views of Mt. Makalu and Baruntse peaks, after a good walk of the day reaching at Sherson for overnight stop.

Day 10: Trek to Makalu Base Camp 4,812 m - 04 hrs.

After Sherson heading to our main highlight and destination at Makalu Base Camp, where walk leads on high path over moraine and ice within rocky areas to reach at Makalu base camp, located close to a glacial icy pond next to Baruntse Himal.

Our overnight camp set beneath towering South Face of Mt. Makalu, with time to explore and enjoy views of surrounding high peaks.

Day 11: Rest day at base camp for local exploration and hike

Rest day at Makalu base camp with views of Mt. Makalu, Baruntse Himal and peak IV, options for hike for views of Mt. Everest with its rare East Face known as Kangshung with Mt. Lhotse.

Day 12: Trek to Yangle Kharka 3, 598 m - 06 hours.

From Makalu base camp retrace the walk back towards lower Barun valley to reach at Yangle Kharkafor overnight stop enclosed within high rocky cliffs, offering views of waterfalls.

Day 13: Trek to Mumbuk - 05 hours.

After a grand time around Barun valley, walk leads towards the end of Barun valley and then climb back into forest at Mumbuk for overnight camp.

Day 14: Trek to Kongma Danda / Ridge - 05 hours.

Morning heading back on the same scenic trail to Kongma ridge, starting with a climb for an hour into forest areas to reach a ridge after leaving tree lines, as walk leads past the glacial ponds and over Tutu la and Shipton la to Kongma hill for overnight camp.

Day 15: Trek to Narbu Gaon 1,310 m via Tashi Gaon - 05 hours.

Ending our high latitude trek as morning walk leads to long downhill into forest of tall tree lines to reach at Tashi Gaon, from here on route Nawa or Narbu gaon village, as our route leads into shade of forest and farm terraces to reach a large Sherpa village of Nawa Gaon on for overnight stop, with afternoon free to explore this nice farm village.

Day 16: Trek to Num via Seduwa - 05 hrs.

Our last walk of the adventure completes on following a trail to Seduwa village, from Seduwa village long descend on steep path to reach a bridge over Arun River, after crossing the bridge steep climb for few hours to reach back at Num village for last overnight around high hills of Makalu Himalaya.

Day 17: Drive to Tumlingtar for overnight in local Lodge.

Adventure finally completes taking an exciting drive back to Tumlingtar past farm land of Chinchila, Manebhanjyang and past Khandbari town to reach back at Tumlingtar with time to visit around and observe local culture and custom of eastern Nepalese people.

Day 18: Fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel with free afternoon.

Early morning get transferred to Tumlingtar airport for short scenic flight back to Kathmandu overlooking mountain panorama with green hill landscapes as flight reaches at
Kathmandu airport and then transfer back to your hotel, with free afternoon at leisure.

Day 19: Free and contingency day in Kathmandu and for individual activities.

Reserved as free and or contingency day,in case of flight delay and cancellationat Tumlingtar in case of Himalayan unfavorable and unpredictable bad weather that might happen sometimes.

To be safe and secure having an extra day in Kathmandu, if all goes well as per our itinerary days, enjoy this free day for individual activities or join in for another exciting sightseeing tour around places of great interest visiting Kathmandu-Patan or Bhaktapur.

Day 20: Depart for International flights homeward bound.

Final and last day in Nepal, country of high Himalaya and varied culture, after a memorable experience and great adventure of a lifetime on Makalu Base Camp trekking, as per time for international flight our staff transfer you to the airport for  homeward bound or to your next port of call and respective destinations.
